I would rate this a 2.5 or 3. The design is great for a small beginner bathouse with nursery area. HOWEVER -the wood material is good but the construction is very poor. This would make a great pre-cut self assemble kit. Bats need a hot environment (above 100f). There are gaps in the joints of the sides and roof allowing heat to escape. This WILL NOT work for bats. I loosened the joints and added environmentally friend caulk/adhesive to fix the heat lose problem. Then again using environmentally friendly, not toxic DARK stain, I darken the entire bathouse so that the bathouse will absorb heat. I would also recommend scoring the interior instead of using stapled on meshing. If these changes were made (scoring the interior surface, adding joint adhesive/caulk and staining darker) this item would make a great starter kit. It is a great design but, as is, the buyer needs to add some TLC. BAT ARE VERY PARTICULAR
