For our purposes - an upcoming trip to Florence with Road Scholars - and our backgrounds - I am a retired, Lutheran Church Musician, and my wife is a spiritual director - the author's emphasis on the intention of the art within an observant, Dominical monastery and the devotional life of the friars - was a wonderful addition to the many over-views of art and artists in Renaissance Florence. The book is well thought out, the prose is purposeful, and the focus stays true. I don't know what an art critic would say, but we love it.
