I first learned of the GreenStalk vertical planters from two of my favorite UTubers - Becky from One Acre Homestead and Jess from Roots and Refuge Farm. Both ladies expounded upon how nice these systems were and showed videos on how to set them up and ideas for planting in each. I finally took the plunge this year and purchased two of these planter kits, with the addon of the base (has wheels). I am in love. Each vertical planter uses about 4 bags of compost... I was able to obtain mine locally for approximately 8 dollars per bag. Setting them up is a fill with dirt and snap the water distribution disk in and add the next layer. Was able to complete it in about 30 minutes, more due to the hot weather than difficulty of setting up. Planting was equally as easy, and each plant is taking to their new spot with ease. Add water to the top and let the water trickle through. As hot as it is in Southern California lately, I have been filling the planters with water daily.I would highly recommend this product. Made in the USA. I plan on purchasing additional units for family members who also love to garden for Christmas this year!I could wish it was 25-50% larger. Really depends what you plant in it. Yes, as it is it is one of the larger stackable planters. Am using it for herbs. Does OK for that, though could be even taller levels for me. For instance, the levels are each about 10" tall,,, but my basil and oregano can be 15-20" tall.It is certainly too small for larger veggies like tomatoes, peppers, squash, and so forth. I guess they would grow, but would never be the size I get in raised beds. So will be used for herbs and perhaps flowers.I did find a wheeled base is nice to have, so I can turn it every few days, to even out the sun exposure for the plants. Ended up making my owns, using the wheels off a cheap Harbor Freight furniture dolly and a simple base I made from pressure treated 2x6 lumber. On top of that I put a large drip pan, and then that planter on top of that. I had seen I could buy ready made things, but pretty sure what I put together is a lot more sturdy and capable, as well as cheaper.I will probable make a simple screen for the top too. Leaves and seeds collect in the open top as it is now.Anyway, will be a useful thing to grow herbs in. Hopefully lasts awhile, as it wasn't cheap.I planted some strawberries ? on the upper portion radishes lettuce on lower portions will see how they do. Assembly very easy very durable. What a huge difference from the previous one that I order because the container is quiet deep. Plan to use this inside the house also & hope to still grow veges even during winter season.I bought two of these planters, and I want to get a third! They are sturdy, well made, easy to put together. I got the spinning stand thing for them, which is awesome too! I spin the planters at least once a day so all pockets can get sunlight. I planted a bunch of seeds on the pockets, and they are all growing! I’m excited for my harvest!I planted my tower a month ago and so far, so good! I planted several small plants and they have all worked out. I did have to move my cucumbers out somewhere else because I didn’t have anything for them to grow on. I only recently planted seeds, so we’ll see how that goes. I would recommend a rolling cart for the base. I am not using one from the same company and it works but is a little tricky to move around.I'm growing lettuce in mine and it's working well. My wife is vegan so I grow a LOT of vegetables. Found out baby lettuce and spinach grows back because you don't have to pull it up like a head of lettuce. I just trim it like cutting hair an inch above the soil and I have an entire summer and fall work of the most expensive lettuce for ever now thanks to the 30 bins on this tower. Watering is easy too. Add to one spot and the whole thing is watered. Great design and as easy to put together as giant Legos. Looking forward to using it for the next decade! It is a well made product and it is very easy to assemble. Many different plants can be planted.
