Why are bats so awesome? Bats play a niche role in an interconnected natural system that is directly responsible for the health of ecosystems and human economies around the world. Why do I need a bat house? Because you’d like to support bats while enjoying a healthier soil, a greener lawn, and a mosquito free garden! (Did you know? A single Little Brown bat, a common North American species, can consume up to 1,000 mosquitoes an hour!) Would any color do? No. The internal temperature of the bat house is one of the most important factors in a successful occupancy, and the two main things that affect that temperature are: the color of the bat house and the location/direction it is installed in. Please select a bat house color according to your region in the provided color map. How many will I need? It depends on the size of your property, but installing 1 to 2 bat houses per acre has worked best for our customers. Would any bat box do? Not quite! You need a high-quality bat house that can sustain the weather and that is designed to attract bats and give them the shelter they need. WHITEHORSE is proud to present its new collection of bat houses for outdoors. Our premium 3-chamber bat boxes are approved by Merlin Tuttle [2020] and they are also designed to BCI's specifications (Merlin is the founder of MTBC and BCI). They are simply built to satisfy bats, and you! True high-quality Not only is this bat house made from premium cedar wood that is naturally resistant to rot, insects and varying weather conditions, but it is also constructed in a way that makes it one solid bat box that will last much longer than similar products. Tip: the right house color will provide the roost temperature that bats need in your area, so make sure you select a bat house color according to your location in the provided color map. No corners cut We use a tongue-and-groove construction for the joints to keep the chambers dark and dry. We also assemble the bat house with decking screws instead of nails because otherwise it is only a matter of time until the weather separates the nails- leaving the chambers exposed, and rendering the bat house an unsuitable roosting choice for bats. Easy to Install Our pre-assembled bat houses come with high quality mounting hardware and they are ready to go. To increase the chances of bat occupancy, we recommend that you install the bat house at least 10 to 12 feet above ground, and if possible, even higher would be better. Recommended locations are on the side of your house/building, shed, or barn. And if possible, installing the bat house on a post away from trees and light sources would be best (pictured here for reference are our 2-chamber bat houses installed back to back on a post). We've included more useful tips in the free guide! Enjoy a richer and more balanced soil Bat droppings (guano) are a powerful natural fungicide that help cleans out toxins from your soil while enriching it with valuable nutrients and improving its texture and drainage. As a fertilizer, guano also helps keep your plants green while strengthening the roots and stems! Tip: use a shallow tray underneath the bat house to collect the droppings, and use protective gloves while handling guano to safeguard your health. Earth conscious The wood used in making this bat house is 100% FSC (SAI, 2018). That means it is sourced from a forest that is managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment. Support bat populations We are beyond excited that you will be supporting bats in your area by giving them a home! And so we've created a free guide for you with the 5 tried and proven methods to attract bats and keep them coming back, and none of them include using bat guano or a bat attractant spray because, according to Merlin Tuttle and the BCI, they simply don’t work! A complete kit The printed guide is full of useful info about bats and installation tips for your new bat house. It is also elegantly designed and makes for a great a gift!
